The author set off after a stay in Kashmir, to Ladakh via the Zoji la pass. The authors description of both Kashmir and Ladakh is exhaustive; he describes all that he saw; the people, the cities and their surroundings, the topography and river drainage, the legal systems etc. From there he crosses in to Baltistan via the Karakoram pass and there he describes the military importance of that area. He visits Gilgit and Astor, the Hunza valley. The author gets involved in military operations to capture Nilt and Nagar. The book has 54 illustrations and a map of the area that the author traveled in. The authors journey was in the years 1891-92. This book is a reprint of the 1905 edition. 20th century - Twentieth century.
