The Laser sailing dingy revelutionised the small boating industry as this small one-man craft has been able to out-sail nearly every other dingy of its class. The unique design created by Bruce Kirby in 1970 soon became one of the most popular sailing boats and still thrills and excites both new and experienced sailors in every corner of the world today. Dick Tillman has been a laser sailor from the very beginning of the boat's history and won the first major laser race, the North American Championship, in 1971. Laser Sailing for the 1990's is the second revision to Laser Sailing for Beginners and Experts first published in 1975. The original title still accurately describes the content of the book. Tillman begins by giving an informative history of the design and build of the laser. The boat has a large sail in comparison with its hull size (13'10" or 4.23m) and because of the fiberglass material used in its construction, weighs only 130lbs/56.7kg. This produces a boat that is both fast and agile and due to the relatively simple rigging is accessible and exciting for both beginners and experts. The book gives informative chapters on the basics of laser sailing and useful maintenance tips. Later chapters explore the racing techniques and hints on how to prepare for a race. This includes interviews with several winners of major laser racing events giving an informative perspective on their preparation. Throughout this 170-page book there are useful diagrams and photographs which give the book an added appeal.
