This is the "Second impression, 1964" of an edition originally published in London by Frank Cass & Co., Ltd., in 1934. How can a 1964 printing bear an ISBN? The ISBN we list (with an accompanying bar code) has been affixed as a sticker to burgundy cloth of rear board, and also noted on a small "Post-it" note stuck to rear pastedown. Precisely when and how this post-1970 number came to be assigned we do not know. Bulk of this book is in English, but some of the papers (as well as the Preface, by Henri Hauser) are printed here in their original French, German, or even Italian. Much of the banking history covered here dates from 1300 to 1815, with a lot of emphasis on the 17th Century. Totals 480 pp.
