Contents: Introduction by Hans-Jürgen Weckermann; Naufragium ioculare, by Abraham Cowley, facsimile reprint of edition originally published: London : Seile, 1638; Valetudinarium, by William Johnson, facsimile of a manuscript in Emmanuel College, Cambridge (MS 52, formerly 1.2.32). S.59, University Library MS. Dd.3.73, and Emmanuel College MS. 52 (formerly 1.2.32), which serves as the copy of the present facsimile. The title-page of the Emmanuel manuscript gives 6 February 1637/8 as the date of the first and probably only performance of the play.Since the scene is set at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London, the 'hospital' of the title, diseases, whether referring to physical, psychic or mental illnesses, dominate the atmosphere of the play."
