Bears combines the work of some of North America's leading wildlife photographers with the writing of Daniel Wood, a leading nature writer. This celebration of the bears of North America covers black bears, brown bears, and polar bears. Through photographs, text, and extended captions, the earth's largest terrestrial carnivore is revealed in intimate detail. Wood explores social interaction, hunting and hibernation patterns, mothering behaviour, and the consequences of human contact with these magnificent creatures. He also follows a year in the life of a bear and, in the process, dispels many common myths about this misunderstood animal. Catch a glimpse of migrating polar bears hunting and frolicking in Churchill, Manitoba, as they wait for Hudson Bay to freeze. Follow the black bear as it scrounges for salmon, insects, berries, and garbage. Discover why the grizzly bear can strike terror in the hearts of hikers and campers. Bears enters the wild domain of this fascinating animal and presents an in-depth portrait of it at work, rest and play. , Hardcover, Ausgabe: Revised, Label: Whitecap Books Ltd. Whitecap Books Ltd. 3, Hardback with D/J in very good condition. 1995. For thousands of years the bear has been a powerful symbol in North American art and culture. Today "Ursidae" continue to symbolize for many North Americans the wild and untameable forces of nature. Wonderful photographs. Amazon review - I have seen that wonderful book the first time at my sister's ; I found it (translated into German) then in a big bookstore in Regensburg...My sister, my mother and I are great fans of the bears and we loved that book. The photographs are excellent (many of them by the famous Daniel J. Cox) and the book itself is well written. The descriptions of all these bears and their life are very interesting and I am learning a lot about these beautiful animals.I still haven't finished that book, and I am sure I will read it more than once. I only can say: this book is highly recommendable! . Hardcover.
