Set of Handwritten Postcards by Creator of Astro Boy, to Aspiring Manga Artist with a First Edition of s Autobiography

A set of 3 handwritten postcards from the creator of Astro Boy, Tezuka Osamu, to a 14 year old aspiring manga artist, Mori Masaki, later to join Tezuka`s company and become a famous manga artist and anime director in his own right. His anime series `Barefoot Gen` is particularly well-known. A first edition of volume 1 of Masaki Mori`s autobiography also accompanies this set, where on p.161 there is a picture of two of these exact same postcards included. The first postcard (a response to Mori`s request to take him as a pupil) gently explains to Mori that he does not want a pupil at this time and that Mori needs to try on his own, while the second gives advice to Mori about how to become a manga artist. Both postcards are stamped with the faces of some of Tezuka`s well-known characters, like Astro Boy/ The third postcard is a new year`s card printed with a cartoon depicting talking tigers (it was the year of tiger) of Tezuka`s design. He has signed this postcard, but there is no message written. The postcards date from Showa 30 (1955), 31 (1956), and 36 (1961). All three are slightly browned from age, as to be expected, and have browned tape attached to the edges. The accompanying autobiography includes the original dust jacket and obi, and is in fine condition except for two small spots on the text block edge. Extremely rare. Text in Japanese.
