Februar 2006 haben wir die Büchersammlung des international bekannten Rostocker Bodenkundlers übernommen, insgesamt 98 Bände (incl. Broschüren). Alle diese Bände sind mit einer fortlaufenden Bandnummer, dem Tag der Übernahme, dem Namen des Besitzers und einer Original-Unterschrift von Prof. G. Reuter versehen. Gerhard Reuter, Jahrgang 1921, stammt aus dem Sächsischen. Als junger Mann wird er Kriegsteilnehmer ( 2.Weltkrieg) und dabei schwer verwundet. Noch während des Krieges beginnt er ein landwirtschaftliches Studium an der Universität in Halle. Das bekannte Institut von Karl Schmalfuß wurde Reuter zur wissenschaftlichen Heimat für Diplom und Dissertation (Dr.). Bereits hier hat er die Bodenkunde zu seinem Interessengebiet erwählt. 1952 folgte er dem Ruf von Prof. Kurt Nehring an die Universität Rostock.1959 wurde er von der Landwirtschaftlichen Fakultät der Rostocker Universität zum Dozenten für Bodenkunde berufen. Prof. Reuters Verdienst ist es, daß er in Rostock die Bodenkunde ins Leben gerufen hat, um diese dann hier in Lehre und Forschung bis ins hohe Alter mit Leidenschaft zu vertreten. Er nahm auch Gastprofessuren im Ausland wahr. Auf Reuters Konto kommen bis heute ungefähr 170 wissenschaftliche Publikationen. Er wurde Ehrenmitglied der Bodenkundlichen Gesellschaft der DDR und der Deutschen Bodenkundlichen Gesellschaft und Mitglied der Geologischen und der Geographischen Gesellschaft der DDR sowie der Deutschen Quartärvereinigung DEUQUA, der Internationalen Bodenkundlichen Union und der Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher LEOPOLDINA. Prof. Reuter liebt nicht nur seine Arbeit, er ist auch Sportler und verehrt die Musik. So greift der erfahrene Felskletterer, Alpinist und Langstreckler, bis heute (2006) zur Gitarre, um eigene Lieder vorzutragen.
