New York: Bristol Park Books, 2014. 370 Pages Indexed. Beautiful as new gift quality condition. Interior text pages are flawless. Originally published in Germany in 2005. This is the First Bristol Parks edition published in New York in 2014. Illustrated with 39 Photos and 2 Maps. In 1945, in the wreckage of war-devastated Berlin, Otto Guensche and Heinz Linge were captured by the Soviet Army. They were high value prisoners; Guensche was Hitler's personal adjutant, and Linge head of Hitler's personal household. Russian intelligence needed the two for a very special project -- they had been instructed by Stalin to compile a biography of Adolf Hitler. Stalin was unable to shake off the nightmare that was Adolf Hitler. He was, in fact, convinced that the fuhrer had not killed himself, but was still alive and planning another offensive. So Stalin ordered his secret police to explore every vestige of Hitler's private life. For months Guensche and Linge were interrogated until Russian agents were satisfied that they had the fullest possible account of Adolf Hitler. This is the origin of The Hitler Book. This compelling first-hand narrative of a decade of service in Hitler's headquarters, was presented to Stalin in a limited edition of one, and remained in Russian archives, until Party files were opened after the fall of the Soviet regime. It has never before been published in its entirety. This book was uncovered in Moscow by Matthias Uhl, who had studied history and political science in German and Russia. He now works at the German Historical Institute in Moscow. With Henrik Eberle, an historian and journalist who teaches at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, he has edited and annotated this edition. Contents: Foreword by Richard Overy, Translator's Preface by Giles MacDonogh, Editors Introduction by Henrik Eberle and Matthias Uhl, The Hitler Book Summer 1933 - Summer 1934, Summer 1934 - February 1936, March 1936 - October 1937, November 1937 - February 1939, March - November 1939, December 1939 - May 1941, June 1941 - January 1942, February 1942 - February 1943, February - Summer 1943, Summer 1943 - February 1944, February - June 1944, July 1944 - January 1945, January - March 1945, March I945, April- May 1945, Editors' Afterword, Acknowledgements, Table of Comparative Third Reich Military Ranks and British/US Equivalents, Notes, and Select Bibliography. . Stalin had never been able to shake off the nightmare of Adolf Hitler. Just as in 1941 he refused to understand that Hitler had broken their non-aggression pact, he was in 1945 unwilling to believe that the dictator had committed suicide in the debris of the Berlin bunker. In his paranoia, Stalin ordered his secret police, the NKVD, precursor to the KGB, to explore in detail every last vestige of the private life of the only man he considered a worthy opponent, and to clarify beyond doubt the circumstances of his death. For months two captives of the Soviet Army--Otto Guensche, Hitler's adjutant, and Heinz Linge, his personal valet--were interrogated daily, their stories crosschecked, until the NKVD were convinced that they had the fullest possible account of the life of the Führer. In 1949 they presented their work, in a single copy, to Stalin. It is as remarkable for the depth of its insight into Adolf Hitler--from his specific directions to Linge as to how his body was to be burned, to his sense of humor--as for what it does not say, reflecting the prejudices of the intended reader: Joseph Stalin. Nowhere, for instance, does the dossier criticize Hitler's treatment of the Jews. Today, the 413-page original of Stalin's personal biography of Hitler is a Kremlin treasure and it is said to be held in President Putin's safe. The only other copy, made by order of Stalin's successor, Nikita Khrushchev, in 1959, was deposited in Moscow Party archives under the code number 462A. It was there that Henrik Eberle and Matthias Uhl, two German historians, found it. Available to the public in full for the first time, The Hitler Book presents a captivating, astonishing, and deeply revealing portrait of Hitler, Stalin, and the mutual antagonism of these two dictators, who between them wrought devastation on the European continent. Hardcover, Label: Bristol Park, Bristol Park, Product group: Book, Published: 2014-01-01, Studio: Bristol Park, Sales rank: 1877799.
