Since the 1970s, I have collected 38 model boats from 16 countries. Each model boat has a unique story of its own. Except for one, all of the models are sailboats, rowboats or non-motorized boats. They are not commercially available, but acquired while I was traveling abroad or on vacation. These models are works of art with exacting details; some are antiques with wonderful patinas and have not been restored. Several date before the 1900s. In many cases, they were built by exceptional model makers, former fishermen or artisans. The photos try to convey their beauty.

Plantations or investor-based alternatives are not possible because of land tenure and poor returns since cocoa is grown in remote and sometimes dangerous areas.
