Presentation inscription to front free endpapaer: "1973 Cmdr / This book, if you have time to review prior to your visit with may give you some answers. / E L Lizt [?] / 1969/71 Dept Cmdr / P.S. I am your work horse in the Philippines. / Gene". The inscription seems to refer to a [US?] military Deputy Commander welcoming an incoming Commander, in the Philippines in 1973, though I've had no luck in researching this. !973 was a critical year in politics in the Philippines, with Marcos pushing through a new national Constitution and cementing the absolute rule he had seized the previous year by declaring martial law.This book thoroughly documents the years under Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945. Scarce book, particularly in dust jacket.
