Excerpt from Randall's Tabulated United States History It has been the experience of the author, through a long course of study, and also as a teacher, to learn that the study of history to pupils is a dry and tedious undertaking, and that this dislike is owing to the fact that the histories heretofore published for the common schools contain too many words for the amount of matter. Very often pupils have to read five or six pages to learn what might have been expressed in twenty words; this not only confuses him in learning his lesson, but takes time from his other studies. Therefore, in presenting this little book to the public, we hope to lay a true foundation for the study of United States History in as few words as possible. The author will consider it a great favor to be informed of whatever mistakes may have been made in the preparation of this work.
